We take strength and pride in our acceptance of all creeds, colors, mindsets, artistic sensibilities, and pants. We don't pretend to be what we are not. We are not homogenized in appearance or paradigm, but we are brothers in our love for people and are bound together by our diversity. We are not a melting pot, we are fertile soil, and whatever grows…grows. So that's what I like about Beta; the fact that I am privileged to share brotherhood with the craziest, most laid-back, and most different guys I will ever meet.

While we are men of different interests, there are a few things that Betas value above all else:

Brotherhood – Brotherhood is the common bond of mutual respect and love that unifies the Beta Upsilon chapter of Beta Theta Pi. It means that even if you don’t agree with the opinion of your brother you at least respect where he is coming from. It means that we NEVER haze or mistreat pledges who wish to be a part of Beta. And finally it means that after a stressful term or a tough month at home there are 30 guys who are always there for you to share in every sorrow and joy, and every failure and success.

Academics – Academics are an important part of Beta life. We take great pride in our academic work and find joy in the cultivation of the intellect. While all of us appreciate and enjoy math, science, and the humanities, Betas realize that the only way to succeed in the academic world is to find their intellectual passion and pursue it to the utmost. At Beta you can’t avoid learning from Betas who are passionate about a field; from sustainable development of cities to biological computation structures to Dostoevsky.

Athletics – Athletics are a way for Betas to have fun and compete. Many of our brothers are in varsity sports such as swimming, sailing, and baseball. We also participate in at least 2 intramural sports per season and manage to do pretty well, claiming the championship in bowling and basketball.

Community Service – Betas take community service seriously. Whether we are shoveling snow off a neighbor’s stoop, participating in a walk for hunger, or organizing an event at the Braille press, Betas realize that they are a part of the community and do their best to give back.
